Delhi's CNG Price Hiked Amid Global LNG Cost Surge
Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced a price hike for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Delhi, effective from August 29, 2026. The CNG price will increase by ₹3.89 per kg. This move comes as the global Spot Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) prices have nearly doubled due to escalating conflicts in West Asia and heightened European demand ahead of the winter season.
The international gas benchmarks have seen a significant surge, with European TTF gas prices rising by around 105% from approximately $11.36/MMBTU to $23.35/MMBTU. Asian JKM LNG benchmark has also climbed by 113% from roughly $10.99/MMBTU to $23.41/MMBTU.
IGL has managed to partially shield Indian consumers from these price fluctuations, ensuring that Delhi continues to have some of the lowest retail CNG prices globally. The company aims to maintain an uninterrupted supply to the city's commuters and public transport operators.
