Devon Unveils $2B Permian Pipeline Plan with 4.5 Bcf/d Capacity
Devon Energy is investing in two major gas pipelines connecting the Permian Basin to natural gas facilities at Katy, Texas. The Solitude Pipeline System will have two 48-inch natural gas pipelines with a total capacity of approximately 2.25 Bcf per day. Devon holds a 25% equity interest in the joint venture, alongside Whitewater (50%), MPLX (10%), Diamondback Energy (7.5%), and Western Midstream Partners (7.5%). The project is expected to enter service in the second half of 2029, with a similar-sized second phase planned for 2030.
The Solitude pipeline represents the next step in Devon's integrated model, which aims to convert basin-level constraints into durable margin and capture value across the entire value chain. The company has already secured firm transportation capacity and is expanding its access to Gulf Coast markets, where North American liquefaction capacity is expected to more than double by the end of the decade.
Devon's president and CEO, Clay Gaspar, stated that the Solitude pipeline is not a standalone investment but rather the next step in an integrated model that has been building for years. The company has taken ownership or long-term contractual control of infrastructure supporting its position in the Delaware Basin, including crude and NGL market access, gas takeaway, gas processing, gas gathering and compression, power, and produced water.
