Dhaka Gripped by Severe Gas Shortage
The gas shortage in Bangladesh has worsened, causing widespread hardship for households and industries across the country. The crisis has been particularly severe in Dhaka, where residents have been struggling to cook due to low gas pressure.
According to eyewitnesses, it now takes several hours to prepare a single meal, with many families forced to switch to electric heaters or induction cookers, significantly increasing their monthly expenses.
The situation has also disrupted operations at CNG filling stations, with long queues forming at the few that remain open. Business owners warn that if the situation persists, it could hamper production and make it difficult to meet export shipment deadlines.
Titas Gas authorities blame a technical fault at the LNG terminal in Maheshkhali for the crisis, which has reduced the supply of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to the national grid.
