Diesel Prices Soar in US Amid Global Supply Chain Pressures
US diesel prices have skyrocketed to an average of $5.85 per gallon from about $3.76 in recent months, creating a significant strain on supply chains across various industries.
The sharp increase is attributed to several factors, including the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has disrupted oil supplies and led to restrictions on diesel exports by Russia until September 30.
Additionally, tensions with Iran have added pressure to global markets, causing Brent crude prices to rise above $107 a barrel as of September 14, compared to around $70 before the conflict began.
The effects of the price surge are being felt across various sectors, including transportation, agriculture, and industry. Trucks, farms, factories, and heating systems all rely on diesel fuel, making it an essential component of urban logistics.
