Diesel Prices Soar Past $6 a Gallon Amid Ongoing Conflict

Diesel prices in the US have hit a record high, surpassing $6 per gallon on average. This increase is largely due to Washington's ongoing conflict with Iran, which has disrupted global fuel supplies.

The national average of nearly $6.06 is up from $5.85 last week and almost $3.71 this time last year, according to motor club AAA. Higher diesel prices mean more expensive transportation for everyday goods, including perishable foods like meat and produce.

Businesses have already begun passing on these increased costs to consumers in the form of added fees on online orders and packages. The impact will likely be felt most strongly in grocery stores, where fuel accounts for a significant portion of food costs.

With crude oil prices also on the rise, it's unlikely that diesel prices will decrease anytime soon. In fact, President Donald Trump has said that oil prices won't come down until after November's midterm elections.
