Diesel Prices Soar Past $6 a Gallon Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict
Fuel prices in Minnesota have continued to soar, with diesel prices reaching an all-time high of over $6 per gallon. According to AAA, Monday's average price was just over $6.07 a gallon, up more than 10 cents from Sunday and a staggering 30 cents higher than the same time last week. The national diesel average stood at $6.23 a gallon on Monday.
The increase in prices can be attributed to ongoing military conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted oil supplies and driven up costs. Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's traded oil and gas transits, has forced the Saudis to use an alternate route for crude oil exports.
The situation is further complicated by the seizure of strategic islands in the Red Sea by Yemen's Houthi rebels, who have bolstered their ability to control the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. This puts additional pressure on Saudi shipments and global oil supplies, contributing to the sharp price increases.
