Diesel Prices Soar Past $6 as US-Iran War Continues to Disrupt Fuel Markets
The recent surge in diesel prices has become a major concern for Americans as it directly affects the cost of goods and services. According to motor club AAA, the national average price of diesel has surpassed $6 per gallon, up from $5.85 last week and nearly $3.71 this time last year.
This increase is largely due to the ongoing war between the US and Iran, which has disrupted the global flow of fuel. The Associated Press reported that oil prices have also renewed their rise recently, with US crude surpassing $100 a barrel for the first time in months as fighting between the two nations escalated again.
President Donald Trump has downplayed the effects of the war on oil prices, stating that they likely won't come down until after November's midterm elections. However, American diesel prices are now over 60% higher than they were before the US and Israel attacked Iran in late February, with the national average at that time being $3.76 per gallon.
The war has also led to a global shortage of fuel, with Ukraine targeting Russia's oil and gas industry with long-range strikes. President Trump has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt these strikes, citing the need to prevent further disruption to the global market.
