Double-Crop Soybeans with Wheat Gains Popularity Amid Global Wheat Price Surge
Agricultural experts are projecting that double-crop soybeans planted alongside wheat will yield higher profits for farmers in warmer growing regions, particularly in Illinois.
The University of Illinois' ag economist, Gary Schnitkey, estimates that this combination can increase projected returns to $309 per acre, surpassing corn and stand-alone soybeans by $174 and $105 per acre respectively.
This optimism is largely driven by escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, which have led to improved wheat prices. The scenario is reminiscent of 2023 when the conflict began.
