Drone Attack Hits US LNG Vessel at Egypt's Damietta Port
A drone attack on Egypt's Mediterranean port of Damietta has caused a fire to break out on a US-owned liquefied natural gas vessel, marking the first attack on Egyptian soil since the war between Iran and the US began in February.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:20 pm CET on Wednesday, when the Energos Winter, a Marshall Islands-flagged floating storage and regasification unit owned by New Fortress Energy, was struck on its starboard side by a drone. The fire then spread to the nearby Bermuda-flagged LNG tanker Gaslog Salem.
No injuries were reported as both crews were evacuated, but the incident disrupted operations at the terminal and forced both vessels to move offshore for assessment. Egyptian authorities confirmed that preliminary investigations found the incident was caused by a drone, with no side claiming responsibility yet.
