Drone Attack on Egypt's Damietta Port Leaves Shipping Fears in the Region
A drone attack on Egypt's Damietta Port has left two commercial ships severely damaged in a massive fire, according to official confirmation from Cairo. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when an unidentified unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) breached port airspace and detonated.
The attack marks the first time Egypt has officially attributed such an incident to an intentional military strike, indicating that the country's northern maritime infrastructure is now vulnerable to asymmetrical warfare.
The damaged ships were docked at Damietta, a critical hub for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports and agricultural imports. The Egyptian Ministry of Defence has deployed advanced radar pickets and surface-to-air missile batteries along the Nile Delta coast in response to the attack.
