Drone Attacks Disrupt Oil Production in Libya Amid Fuel Shortage Fears
A drone attack has struck a power station at Libya's key oil hub, Zawiya oil export terminal, causing concerns about fuel shortages and disruptions to oil production. The power plant is located near the largest oil refinery in Libya and its destruction could impact the operation of the refinery.
The attack follows earlier incidents, including an explosion at an oil storage tank that contained 4.5 million liters of gasoline. The National Oil Corporation has warned that continued attacks may lead to a force majeure declaration on oil exports from Zawiya if more infrastructure is damaged.
Libya's oil infrastructure has been frequently targeted by groups seeking to exert political pressure, and the Zawiya terminal has a daily capacity of 120,000 barrels. The country's largest oil field, Sharara, can produce up to 300,000 barrels daily but has been subject to attacks and blockades.
