Drone Attacks Ignite LNG Ships at Egypt's Damietta Port Amid Mideast Conflict

A drone attack on July 29 at Egypt's Damietta port set ablaze two liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships, according to British maritime security firm Ambrey. The incident occurred shortly after Iran struck U.S. troops in Jordan with missiles and the United States and Saudi Arabia hit pro-Iran militias in Iraq.

The unidentified drone attacked the floating storage unit Energos Winter, causing a fire that spread to the nearby gas carrier GasLog Salem. Vanguard reported that the starboard side of Energos Winter was hit by an unidentified projectile, causing a fire that has since been extinguished.

Energos Winter is a floating storage and regasification unit with a storage capacity of 138,250 cubic meters, owned by U.S. corporations Energos Infrastructure and managed by Wilhelmsen Ship Management. The Egyptian government confirmed the fire but did not attribute it to a drone attack.
