No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi denied any involvement in a tweet, stating that Iran is an 'important friend and partner' of Egypt and urging vigilance against Israeli plots and false-flag operations. He did not directly address the incident.
The Suez Canal is a vital export route for Saudi oil, with a growing volume of shipments being diverted north up the Red Sea toward the canal due to security concerns in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident has raised new energy security concerns about the nearby pipeline and shipping routes, according to energy analysts.
