Drone Strike Hits Saudi Pipeline, Trump Blames Iran

A drone strike hit Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, prompting the kingdom to shut it down as a precaution. Both Baghdad and Riyadh blamed Iran-backed militias operating in Iraqi territory.

Iraq dismissed a military commander responsible for the area, Maysan province, which borders Iran.

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry reported some injuries and said damage was still being assessed. The pipeline can carry up to 5 million barrels of oil a day and has become Saudi Arabia's main alternative route for crude exports since fighting between the U.S. and Iran cut shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to a handful of vessels a day.

President Donald Trump, speaking from Ireland where he was attending a golf tournament, said he believed Iran was likely behind the attack.
