Drone Strike Hits US-Owned Gas Storage Tanker at Egyptian Port
A US-owned gas storage tanker, Energos Winter, was damaged in a drone strike at Egypt's Mediterranean port of Damietta on Wednesday. The attack caused a fire that spread to another LNG carrier, Gaslog Salem.
The incident occurred while liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo operations were underway at the port. British maritime security firm Ambrey reported that the drone hit Energos Winter's starboard side, causing a fire that was later extinguished.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, and crew members were safely evacuated. The attack came hours after Iran launched missiles at US forces in Jordan and the US and Saudi Arabia carried out strikes on Iran-backed paramilitary groups in Iraq.
The incident disrupted operations at one of Egypt's main LNG export ports, causing a rise in Brent crude prices by over 8% to above $90 a barrel.
