Drone Strikes Hit Libya's Key Oil Hub
A drone attack on Libya's Zawiya oil export terminal has targeted a power station at the facility, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the region. The power plant is located near the country's largest oil refinery and had been hit by earlier drone attacks.
The attack comes as the National Oil Corporation warned that continued strikes could lead to a force majeure declaration on oil exports from Zawiya if more infrastructure is damaged. The terminal has a daily capacity of 120,000 barrels, sourced from Libya's largest oil field, Sharara, which can produce up to 300,000 barrels daily.
The power plant attack is the fourth in the area over the past few days, with reports indicating that no one has claimed responsibility for the drone attacks. The company operating the facility had noted that the tank hit earlier contained 4.5 million liters of gasoline, which could exacerbate a local fuel shortage if destroyed.
