Drones Over Saudi Pipeline Expose Air Defense Vulnerabilities
Saudi Arabia's recent pipeline attack by drones launched from Iraq has exposed the vulnerability of even sophisticated air defenses. The incident highlights the challenges of protecting critical infrastructure, particularly against low-flying systems that can evade traditional radar detection.
The East-West oil pipeline was shut temporarily due to the drone strikes, which were traced back to Iraqi territory. Baghdad subsequently acknowledged responsibility and dismissed a senior military commander in Maysan province.
For Israel, this incident serves as a warning against complacency and strategic dependence on regional partners like Saudi Arabia. Normalization with Riyadh should not be mistaken for an automatic security guarantee.
