Drought Wreaks Havoc on European Fisheries

The European fishing industry is facing severe damage due to the ongoing drought in the region. Rivers have seen a significant drop in water levels, leading to a sharp decline in fish populations.

Countries such as Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, and Hungary expect their fishing industries to take a hit of tens of percent, or even halve, by 2026.

The drought has also had a devastating impact on European agriculture, with 38% of the land affected due to water deficits and high temperatures. In some areas, this has resulted in the loss of half the harvest, as seen in the vineyards of Bordeaux, grain fields in Tuscany, and wheat crops in northern Lithuania and Latvia.
