Duke Energy Picks Davie County for New Natural Gas Plants
Duke Energy has chosen the Perkins Game Land in Davie County as the site for two new combined cycle (CC) natural gas plants. The company plans to construct both units on the property, which spans approximately 1,700 acres. Bill Norton, spokesperson for Duke Energy, said that the site was selected because of its existing infrastructure, including nearby transmission lines.
The project will provide enough energy to power more than 2 million homes and create around 80 full-time jobs and over 1,000 short-term positions during construction. The new units will also have a lower environmental impact compared to other plants, as they will use highly efficient CCs that require less water to generate steam.
Norton emphasized that the company would take precautions to minimize any potential negative effects on neighbors and the surrounding environment. He added that the proposal still needs to clear several hurdles at the state level before it can move forward.
