Dutch Central Bank Moves 86 Tonnes of Gold to London Amid Rising Tensions
The Dutch central bank (DNB) has moved 86 tonnes of its gold reserves from the United States and Canada to London, citing rising geopolitical tensions.
According to the DNB, this relocation makes it easier for them to trade their gold reserves in London compared to New York and Ottawa. The move is seen as a precautionary measure to strengthen the bank's resilience and preparedness.
The total Dutch gold stock amounts to 612.4 tonnes and was valued at €72.2 billion at the end of 2025, with 30.8% still held in the Netherlands.
The transfer involved buying and selling, as well as physically moving more than 27 tonnes of physical gold from the US and Canada to Zeist, before being transferred again to London. This combination of methods was used to spread the risks associated with physically moving a large quantity of gold.
