Dutch Central Bank Relocates 86 Tonnes of Gold from US to London Amid Geopolitical Tensions
The Dutch central bank, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), recently relocated around 86 tonnes of gold from the United States and Canada to London between March and August 2026. This move is part of DNB's efforts to strengthen its crisis preparedness in the face of rising geopolitical tensions.
The relocation aimed to improve the liquidity and tradability of DNB's gold reserves, as well as spread risk by distributing the gold across North America, the UK, and the Netherlands. Prior to this move, around 313 tonnes of gold were held in the United States and Canada.
DNB governor Olaf Sleijpen stated that the relocation has improved the tradability of their gold reserves, saying 'We hope we will never need to use them, but we do need to strengthen our resilience and preparedness.'
