Dutch Central Bank Shifts Gold Reserves to London Amid Geopolitical Unrest
The Dutch central bank has relocated 86 tonnes of its gold reserves from the US and Canada to London, citing increasing geopolitical unrest as the reason. The move was made to improve the deployability of the bank's gold reserves in a crisis situation.
The total Dutch gold stock amounts to 612.4 tonnes and was valued at €72.2 billion at the end of 2025. Before the transfer, the bank held 31.3% of its gold in New York and 19.7% in Ottawa.
After the move, both countries account for 18.5% of the Dutch gold reserve, while London now holds 32.1%. The bank still retains 30.8% of its gold in the Netherlands.
