Dutch Gold Shift Fuels 1.1% Rebound in Spot Prices
Gold prices rebounded by 1.1% to $4,373.87 an ounce at 09:57 EDT on September 2, 2026, as yields eased and investors regained confidence.
The Dutch central bank shifted 86 tonnes of gold from North America towards London without increasing its 612.4-tonne reserve, highlighting the importance of liquidity over demand for physical bullion.
This move improved access to tradable bars in London, with the city's share rising to 32.1% from 18.1%, while New York and Ottawa saw their allocations fall to 18.5% each.
Governor Olaf Sleijpen stated that the transfer strengthened crisis liquidity and improved tradability, but noted that DNB expects never to use its reserve.
The rebound in gold prices was also driven by softer dollar and lower Treasury yields, reducing the opportunity cost of holding metal.
