E20 Petrol Decision Boosts Telangana's Ethanol Industry and Farmers
The Central government's decision to continue with E20 petrol has provided a boost to Telangana's ethanol industry and farmers supplying biofuel feedstock. The Centre clarified that there are no immediate plans to increase the blending level beyond 20%, stating that any future decision will be taken only after scientific studies and consultations with automobile manufacturers, oil marketing companies, and research institutions.
The policy presents economic opportunities for Telangana as ethanol production has expanded in districts such as Medak, Sangareddy, Nizamabad, and Peddapalli. Industry experts said sustained demand for ethanol could strengthen the market for maize, damaged food grains, and other ethanol feedstocks, providing farmers with additional marketing avenues and more stable income opportunities.
Fuel expert Dr. Raghavendra Rao said Telangana could emerge as a major biofuel hub if feedstock procurement, distillery capacity, and logistics are developed in a coordinated manner. The Centre maintains that E20 is a proven fuel offering higher octane, cleaner combustion, and lower emissions.
