Egypt Activates Backup Regas Plan After Drone Attack on Damietta Vessel

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that Egypt's energy supply remains uninterrupted following a drone attack on a regasification vessel at Damietta Port. The government activated backup plans to replace the affected unit, ensuring there was no disruption in the country's natural gas supplies.

The attack caused a fire that took around 12 hours to extinguish. Authorities confirmed the cause of the incident after recovering drone debris from the vessel. To prevent further damage, the stricken vessel was towed 3 kilometers away from the port, and a nearby floating storage vessel remained unharmed.

Egypt operates four floating regasification units (FSRUs) to secure natural gas supplies, including three at Ain Sokhna and one at Damietta. The government immediately activated an alternative regasification vessel contracted with Jordan and stationed at Aqaba Port as part of the crisis response.
