Egypt Boosts Refinery Utilization to 80% Amid Efforts to Cut Petroleum Imports
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla said that Egypt has raised its refinery utilization to 80% in a bid to cut petroleum imports. He noted that this achievement reflects the technical capabilities and experience of Egypt's refining companies, particularly their ability to implement specialized projects using national expertise.
El Molla praised workers across Egypt's refining sector for increasing operating rates and crude volumes processed, alongside rising domestic crude oil production. The minister also commended the Cairo Oil Refining Company (CORC) employees for implementing a project to rehabilitate and restart two steam boilers at Alexandria Petroleum Company using their own engineering and technical expertise.
According to CORC Chairman and Managing Director Tarek Abdel Latif, the company processed over 7.5 million tons of crude at its Mostorod and Tanta refineries during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. This figure highlights CORC's contribution to securing domestic gasoline supplies and supporting stability in the local market.
The company also completed a comprehensive overhaul of its gasoline complex using its own personnel and resources, which included engineering inspections, maintenance, replacement, and rehabilitation works aimed at ensuring continued operations and improving production efficiency.
