Egypt Drone Attack Video Misidentifies Ukraine Strike on Russia
A video circulating online claiming to show a drone attack on a US vessel in Egypt has been viewed over one million times, but it actually shows a Ukrainian drone striking a Russian-owned ship in the Black Sea five days earlier.
The incident at Damietta port involved two vessels: the Energos Winter, a US-owned natural gas storage vessel, and the GasLog Salem, a Greek-owned LNG tanker. Both caught fire after being struck by an unidentified drone on July 29.
Egypt's cabinet confirmed that a drone attack caused the fires, but no country or group has claimed responsibility. The incident occurred amid an intensifying conflict involving Iran and Yemen's Houthis on one side, and the United States and Israel on the other.
