Egypt Surpasses Europe as Top Destination for US LNG Shipments

The United States shipped liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Egypt in June, with Egyptian terminals becoming the top destination for US LNG cargoes that month. This shift marks a significant change from previous months when Europe was the preferred destination for US LNG exports.

According to the Department of Energy's LNG monthly report, Asia became the top choice for US LNG shipments over Europe in June, marking the first time this has occurred since September 2024. The Hoegh Galleon, a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), is one of the terminals used for importing LNG in Egypt.

The Department's report notes that FSRU-based LNG import terminals in Egypt were the top destinations for US liquefied natural gas shipments in June. This development highlights the growing importance of Egyptian LNG import facilities in the global market.
