Egypt Targets 11 Trillion Cubic Feet in New Gas Exploration Bid
Egypt is seeking to tap into additional natural gas reserves through its latest exploration bid round. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced the launch of Egypt's 2026 international bid round, offering 14 new areas for crude oil and gas exploration.
The offered areas include eight locations in the Mediterranean Sea, Nile Delta, and North Sinai, and six sites in the Gulf of Suez, Sinai, and the Western Desert. The ministry is counting on the new bid round to expand available gas resources in the coming years and support domestic production.
The country currently produces about 4.2 billion cubic feet per day, but consumption stands at around 6.2 billion cubic feet daily. As a result, Egypt needs to import approximately 2 billion cubic feet of gas each day to meet its demand.
