El Nino Drives Corn Prices to Three-Year High
The price of corn has reached a three-year high due to the El Nino weather phenomenon and dry conditions. The price surged to $5.2425 per bushel in global markets, with a sharp increase of over 11% compared to the end of July and more than 17% compared to December 2025. The bushel price later stabilized at around $5.18.
Corn prices have been affected by hot and dry weather in some corn-producing regions of the U.S., adverse weather in Europe, and ongoing grain shipment disruptions in Ukraine. Growing concerns over crop yields in the U.S. are driving up prices, while rising U.S. corn exports contribute to the increase.
El Nino's effects have been seen since June, particularly in South America, Southeast Asia, and Australia, with a lesser impact on the U.S. and Europe. The weather phenomenon is expected to continue until next year, and experts warn that oil prices may also contribute to further price increases.
