Elcano Takes Delivery of Cutting-Edge LNG Carrier 'Castillo de Mérida'

Elcano Shipping Company has taken delivery of its latest vessel, 'Castillo de Mérida', from Japan's Imabari shipyard. This is a significant milestone for the company, as it marks the completion of the first third-generation LNG carrier in their fleet.

The vessel, which measures 296.90 meters in length and has a cargo capacity of 178,000 cubic meters, will be chartered to Gas Natural under a long-term contract. This is notable, given its ability to transit the Panama Canal following its recent expansion.

Elcano's vice president and CEO, Juan Manuel Cordeiro, oversaw the delivery ceremony. The vessel features cutting-edge technology, including a GTT Mark III Flex insulation system and two slow-speed dual-fuel MAN B&W 7G70ME-C9.2 main engines, which reduce consumption by 40% compared to similar vessels.

The 'Castillo de Mérida' is the third of its class to fly the Elcano flag, solidifying the company's position as a leading player in global LNG transportation. With its advanced safety features and fuel-efficient design, this vessel is set to become an industry benchmark for environmental sustainability.
