Enbridge Breaks Ground on $4-Billion Natural Gas Pipeline Expansion in BC

Enbridge has broken ground on its $4-billion natural gas pipeline expansion project, dubbed the Sunrise Expansion Program. The massive undertaking will stretch from northeastern British Columbia to the Canada-U.S. border near Abbotsford.

The project aims to connect B.C.'s gas supply to the international market while generating economic benefits for local communities. Enbridge CEO Greg Ebel and other officials attended a groundbreaking ceremony in Prince George on July 20, where they emphasized the project's potential to create jobs and stimulate regional economies.

During peak construction season, approximately 900 workers will be on site in the Fraser Valley, supporting local businesses and accommodations. The pipeline expansion also coincides with growing interest in natural gas infrastructure across B.C., including Nortrans' launch of a new natural gas truck in the Thompson-Okanagan region.

Enbridge has not disclosed a specific completion date for the Sunrise Expansion Program, but officials are optimistic about its potential to become a significant contributor to Canada's energy sector.
