A proposed natural gas price increase by Enbridge Gas Ohio has sparked widespread backlash from customers in Ohio.

The company is seeking to raise rates by $7.60 per month, or around $91 per year, citing increased operating costs and construction expenses.

Enbridge spokesperson Stephanie Moore said the hike is necessary to manage financial pressures on multiple fronts, including rising tax accounts and recovery costs associated with previous system investments.

However, some customers expressed concern that the price increase would disproportionately affect low-income households and small businesses, citing Enbridge's reported profits of $1.4 billion last quarter.
