Enbridge's Houston Terminal Boosts Canadian Oil Access

Enbridge's Houston Oil Terminal (EHOT) has opened in July, providing Canadian oil producers with a new gateway to one of the world's most important energy hubs. The terminal connects northern Alberta's oil sands production directly to the Houston region, which is home to the largest concentration of refining and export infrastructure in North America.

The EHOT facility represents the final link in Enbridge's integrated transportation network, allowing Canadian oil producers to access U.S. Gulf Coast refineries and international exports more easily. According to Matt Gagnon, Enbridge's director of business development, 'EHOT gives Enbridge's liquids pipelines business a true Houston footprint... It ties our system from Edmonton all the way to the U.S. Gulf Coast.'

The U.S. Gulf Coast region is the world's leading refining hub for heavy oil, which is Canada's main energy product by value. The region is also the center of North American oil exports, with Canadian heavy oil being processed at its refineries and re-exported to buyers around the world.
