Eneos Secures First Canadian Oil Shipment Since 2025 Amid Middle East Disruptions
Japan's Eneos Holdings has made its first Canadian oil purchase since 2025, acquiring a cargo of 750,000 barrels from Exxon via the Trans Mountain pipeline.
This deal marks a significant shift in Japan's energy import strategies as the country seeks to reduce its reliance on Middle Eastern oil supplies.
According to ship-tracking data from Kpler and LSEG cited by Reuters, ongoing disruptions in the Middle East have made Canadian crude more appealing for Japan, particularly given its previous reliance on Gulf suppliers.
In response to strong international demand, Trans Mountain Corp. has announced plans to further expand pipeline capacity, potentially reaching 1.2 million barrels per day.
