Energy Security Key as LNG Disruptions Expose Market Vulnerabilities
GAIL Chairman and Managing Director Deepak Gupta emphasized that energy security has become equally important as the transition to cleaner energy sources. This comes after disruptions in LNG supply chains exposed vulnerabilities in global energy markets, particularly in the Middle East.
The recent geopolitical tensions have led to volatility in LNG prices, freight rates, and supply availability, highlighting the need for diversified sourcing, resilient infrastructure, and flexible supply chains. India's energy strategy must prioritize a balance between security, affordability, and sustainability.
GAIL has been taking steps to ensure reliability by increasing its LNG sourcing portfolio to 16.56 million metric tonnes per annum, comprising long-term contracts and market-linked procurement. The company also operates a fleet of nine LNG vessels to improve logistics control.
