Energy Security Takes Centre Stage Amid LNG Supply Disruptions

GAIL Chairman and Managing Director Deepak Gupta emphasized that energy security is now as important as transitioning to cleaner energy sources.

This is due to recent geopolitical tensions and disruptions in liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply chains, which have exposed vulnerabilities in global energy markets.

Gupta pointed out that the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route, has been disrupted, leading to volatility in LNG prices, freight rates, and supply availability.

To mitigate these risks, GAIL is diversifying its LNG sourcing portfolio, which currently stands at 16.56 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), and strengthening its infrastructure.
