Eni and TotalEnergies Greenlight Cronos Gas Field Development Offshore Cyprus

Eni and TotalEnergies have taken a final investment decision (FID) on the Cronos gas field development in Block 6 offshore Cyprus.

The Cronos field was discovered in 2022, approximately 185 km from Cyprus' southwest coast. It was successfully appraised two years later through the Cronos-2 well, located 160 km offshore.

To transport production from four subsea wells, a new pipeline will be built connecting to Eni's deepwater Zohr facilities in Egypt for processing.

From there, the gas will be transferred to and liquefied at the restarted Damietta LNG plant in northern Egypt for export as LNG to international markets, mainly in Europe.

This approach leverages existing offshore processing and LNG infrastructure in Egypt, eliminating the need to build standalone export facilities. This is expected to accelerate commercialization of the discovery.

Assuming startup occurs in 2028 as planned, Cronos would become the first Cypriot gas field brought into commercial production. At peak, it's estimated that the development will deliver around 500 MMcf/d.
