Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi has clarified his company's stance on Iran, stating that they are not in competition with Total to secure deals in the country. The Italian energy giant already holds a strong presence in Iran through its development of the Darkhovin oil and Kish gas fields.

Total recently became the first European oil company to sign a deal with Iran in over a decade, leading a consortium to develop the South Pars natural gas field, the largest in the world. Descalzi expressed his approval of Total's involvement in Iran, saying 'We are happy that Total is in Iran.'

Eni has itself signed an agreement with the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) just over a month ago to develop oil and gas fields. The Italian government has also committed significant resources to investing in Iran, with billions of euros pledged for various projects including energy, railways, and defense.
