Italian oil giant Eni is seeking to boost its natural gas supplies from Libya's Mellitah Oil and Gas Company. The current supply stands at around 1.4 billion cubic meters annually, averaging 3.84 million cubic meters per day.

In a letter addressed to Mellitah CEO Bashir Al-Zantani, Eni requested an increase of approximately 20% in the gas supplies to Italy. This would bring the total supply to around 1.68 billion cubic meters annually, equivalent to 4.6 million cubic meters per day.

The request comes after an agreement signed between Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) and Eni in January 2023. Under this agreement, Eni increased its share in several offshore gas projects by 9%. The partnership also committed to investing around $8 billion, with each party contributing $4 billion, to develop these fields through Mellitah Oil and Gas Company.
