Eni Speeds Up Development Plans for Denise West Gas Discovery in Egypt

Italian energy giant Eni is speeding up its development plans for the Denise West gas discovery in Egypt. The company aims to make a final investment decision within the next few months, with first production expected within two years.

The Denise West field, discovered in April this year, contains an estimated 2 trillion cubic feet of gas and 130 million barrels of condensate. Its proximity to existing infrastructure makes it possible for Eni to develop the project rapidly, leveraging Egypt's existing gas network.

Eni operates the Denise Development Lease with a 50% contractor working interest, alongside bp, which holds the other 50%. The joint venture is carried out through Petrobel, a partnership between Eni and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation. This collaboration forms part of Eni's broader drilling and exploration campaign in Egypt, which has already increased production from its offshore Sinai fields by 50% since last year.

Eni remains Egypt's largest oil and gas producer, with an equity output of around 242,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2025. The company is also pursuing the Cronos project off Cyprus, which has a target production capacity of 500 million cubic feet per day. Gas from this field will be sent to Eni's Zohr facilities in Egypt before being liquefied and exported.
