Entropy's Carbon-Capture Project Seeks Federal Policy Shift
Entropy Inc., a Calgary-based carbon-capture developer, has started operating its $200-million Glacier project in northwestern Alberta. The project captures CO2 from one of Canada's largest natural gas processing plants and an attached gas-fired turbine.
The company is backed by Advantage Energy Ltd., Brookfield Asset Management Ltd., and Canada Growth Fund, which agreed to buy carbon credits generated at the site for 15 years at $86.50 a tonne, rising with inflation.
Entropy's CEO, Sanjay Bishnoi, said the technology can be scaled up and used in other locations, including power-hungry data centers and Alberta's oil sands.
The company is urging changes to federal carbon-credit policy to unlock significant investment in its unique technology. It believes that credits under Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations, which sell for more than $400 a tonne, would support new investments.
