The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is considering adjusting biofuel exemptions in response to growing concerns over greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Reuters, the EPA has been reviewing its rules for granting waivers from the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), which requires refiners to blend a certain amount of biofuels into their fuel supplies.

The RFS was established to reduce dependence on foreign oil and mitigate climate change by promoting the use of renewable fuels. However, some critics argue that the exemptions have actually led to increased greenhouse gas emissions due to the displacement of corn-based ethanol with fossil fuels.
