EQT Lands Long-Term LNG Deal with Lithuania's UAB Ignitis
EQT (NYSE:EQT) has secured a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply deal with Lithuanian energy group UAB Ignitis, which will start in 2027 and run through 2036. The contract covers LNG cargo deliveries into Lithuania and provides exposure to both US and European gas price benchmarks for the contracted volumes.
The agreement was reached through a competitive international procurement process and aligns with EQT's narrative of transforming itself from a commodity producer into a more contract-backed cash generator. EQT's management team believes that long-term gas contracts and strategic infrastructure investments can provide stable, high-quality cash flow and sustained margin expansion amid rising demand.
However, the bear case around regulation and regional concentration remains, with the contract still needing approvals from Lithuanian security bodies and EQT's own governance. This highlights the potential for permitting, policy, and national security reviews to shape execution risk, particularly for cross-border gas flows compared with more domestically focused producers.
The deal is significant as it extends EQT's reach into regulated European household supply and plugs straight into its view of transforming itself into a contract-backed cash generator. The agreement also fits the narrative's focus on index-linked pricing that can support more durable cash flow, particularly in relation to US peers such as Chesapeake or Devon.
