Equatorial Guinea Accelerates Gas Monetization Strategy at African Energy Week
Equatorial Guinea's Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mining Development, Antonio Oburu Ondo, will be speaking at African Energy Week (AEW) 2026. His speech is expected to outline the country's accelerating hydrocarbon agenda, including landmark gas monetization projects and an upcoming upstream licensing round.
Under Minister Oburu Ondo's leadership, Equatorial Guinea has doubled down on its Gas Mega Hub strategy, designed to transform the country into a regional gas processing and LNG export center anchored at the Punta Europa complex. The initiative is gaining momentum through major projects such as the Alen Gas Monetization Project and the Aseng Gas Project, which reached a final investment decision in 2026.
These developments are reinforced by deepening activity from international operators including Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and Panoro Energy, which continue to invest in both mature field optimization and new exploration campaigns. The EG Ronda 2026 licensing round is expected to open up to 24 offshore and onshore blocks for exploration between April and November 2026.
Minister Oburu Ondo's agenda also includes the country's efforts to implement broad fiscal and regulatory reforms to enhance competitiveness, including tax reductions and updates to the hydrocarbons and labor frameworks. These reforms are designed to improve investor confidence while sustaining long-term production across aging and new fields.
