Equinor Bolsters Global LNG Portfolio with US Cargo
Norwegian state-owned energy company Equinor has made a significant move in its strategy to double its global liquefied natural gas (LNG) portfolio by 2030. The company received its first LNG cargo from the U.S. Gulf Coast, loaded at Cheniere's Sabine Pass export facility in Louisiana and destined for Europe.
The delivery marks a step towards Equinor's goal of building a diversified LNG business that ensures energy security through long-term, reliable supply arrangements. Equinor has signed long-term supply agreements with Texas-based Cheniere, set to provide around 3.5 million tons of LNG annually from Cheniere's Gulf Coast facilities over 15 years.
Equinor's Senior Vice President for Gas and Power, Helle Ostergaard Kristiansen, commented that the milestone strengthens Equinor's role as a reliable energy supplier, with the United States playing an increasingly important part in its global LNG portfolio. The addition of Gulf Coast volumes is expected to improve market access, portfolio flexibility, and long-term value creation.
