Equinor Signs 15-Year Gas Supply Deal with Uniper for German Market
Norway's Equinor has signed a 15-year agreement to supply natural gas to Germany's Uniper. The deal will see Equinor deliver over 30 TWh (2.8 billion cubic meters) of gas per year from 2027 to 2041.
The agreement reflects market terms, and the parties have kept other commercial details confidential. According to Equinor's CEO Anders Opedal, this partnership demonstrates the strong demand for reliable long-term gas supplies from Norway's continental shelf.
Germany is Equinor's largest market for natural gas, with exports starting in 1977. The new agreement builds on that history and extends the commercial relationship well into the 2040s, says Opedal. He notes that Norwegian gas has been heating German homes, fueling industry, and contributing to energy security for five decades.
Equinor and Uniper have also signed a non-binding letter of intent to explore possible sales from Equinor to Uniper of sustainability-related attributes linked to supplies under the new gas sales agreement. These attributes refer to documented data on the origin of the gas and its greenhouse gas intensity, among other characteristics.
