Equinor Takes First US Gulf Coast LNG Cargo Under Long-Term Cheniere Deal

Equinor has taken delivery of its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo under long-term supply agreements signed with Cheniere, the largest producer of LNG in the US. The cargo was loaded at Cheniere's Sabine Pass LNG export facility in Louisiana and is bound for Europe.

The agreement marks a significant milestone for Equinor as it aims to double its global LNG portfolio by 2030. Under the 15-year agreements signed in 2022 and 2023, Cheniere's Gulf Coast facilities will supply Equinor with around 3.5 million tonnes per year (tpy) of LNG.

According to Helle Østergaard Kristiansen, Senior Vice President for Gas and Power at Equinor, 'The US will play an increasingly important role in our global LNG portfolio, complementing the strength of our existing gas position and providing additional flexibility to serve customers in Europe and Asia.'

Chris Golden, US Country Manager and Senior Vice President Upstream US and Argentina, added that 'the US is a cornerstone of the global LNG market, with abundant natural gas resources, world-class infrastructure, and a growing role in meeting energy demand around the world.'
