Eswatini Bolsters Food Security with Massive Grain Reserve

Eswatini is taking steps to ensure its food security by establishing a National Grain Reserve Facility, which will store approximately 140,000 metric tonnes of grain.

The project aims to mitigate the impact of climate change, droughts, and supply chain disruptions on the country's agricultural sector. According to Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, 'Government has approved that we establish a national grain reserve where we could store grain, legumes, and all that so that we could be sufficient.'

The facility will utilize modern storage infrastructure, including steel silos equipped with advanced technologies such as conveyor systems, moisture monitoring equipment, temperature-controlled storage, and pest management technologies.

Farmers are expected to benefit from improved storage facilities, reducing post-harvest losses caused by pests, spoilage, and poor storage conditions. The project also aims to create jobs during the pre-construction, construction, and operational phases.
