EU Agri-Food Trade Surplus Hits New High
The European Union experienced a significant shift in its agri-food trade surplus in the first half of 2026, according to recent data. The EU's trade surplus for agri-food products stood at €23.9 billion, a €1.4 billion increase compared to the same period in 2025.
The surge in exports can be attributed to higher volumes of agri-food products shipped to Egypt, Ukraine, and India. Specifically, Egypt imported more European grains, Ukraine increased its imports of European beverages, and India took in larger quantities of sunflower oil.
However, not all markets showed growth. The EU's exports to the United States declined by 11% compared to the first half of 2025, mainly due to exceptionally high export levels in 2025. Additionally, exports to the UK contracted partly due to a 13% drop in pork shipments.
